Motorist Caught Shortly After Hit-Run Involving Scooter In Stamford, Police Say

A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hitting a driver on a motor scooter, seriously injuring the driver, and then speeding off.

Sebastiano Peter Sciarretta, of Stamford, allegedly failed to give the right of way to the scooter driver and struck the vehicle around 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, sending the driving flying at the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, said Stamford Police Sgt. Kenneth Jarrett. 

The scooter driver suffered several broken bones and other injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital, he added.

Police sent out a description of Sciarretta's vehicle and he was located quickly on Grove Street, Jarrett said.

A witness was able to positively identify him, he said.

Sciarretta was charged with evading responsibility after serious injury, evading responsibility after property damage, failure to grant the right of way, and driving without insurance.
